As noted above, even if you can’t join meetings via the desktop client due to an outdated software version, you will still have the ability to join meetings via the web, albeit with limited capabilities (see this chart for a comparison). If you lack the necessary admin privileges to update Zoom yourself, please reach out to your desktop support team for assistance. If you don’t see that, click on your avatar at the upper right of the application window and from the pull-down menu, choose “ Check for Updates.” To make sure you’re up to date, open Zoom on your desktop and look for a message at the top of the application window that says an update is available. The vast majority of VCU Zoom users should not be affected by this change, but there may still be a few users out there who have not updated to 5.3 or beyond, even though that release is nearly two years old at this point. Anyone running versions older than 5.3.0 will not be able to join meetings via the Zoom client and will be prompted to update or join from a Web browser (which only supports some, not all, meeting features).

If you are running a Zoom client version below 5.3.0, you will need to update it by August 6. We’ve just been informed that on August 6, 2022, Zoom will be retiring Zoom client versions below 5.3.0 to address a critical security vulnerability.
